Qualifications

Bachelor of Social Work 1978

Certificate IV in Assessment and Training

Joanne is an accredited Social Worker and has additional qualifications in assessment and training. She has worked with children, caregivers and families over a long career in a variety of settings.

Joanne’s work has focused on supporting children and their families, no matter the structure or history to be the best they can be so that the child can thrive no matter their experiences. Joanne has specialised in working with families which have been formed in various ways such as fertility treatment, donor treatment, surrogacy, foster care, adoption, guardianship, same-sex families and relative care.

She is therefore highly experienced in the complexity of families and in supporting children and parents from a variety of backgrounds. Joanne has supported children and families directly but also through psychosocial training when parents are preparing for the challenging tasks of parenting.

The training has been provided to parents considering forming their families through adoption, permanent care, guardianship or using various forms of fertility treatment. In the last ten years, Joanne with her colleagues has been providing highly-acclaimed training, mentoring and coaching for caseworkers and managers working in the Department of Communities and Justice, funded OOHC agencies and Association of Children’s Welfare Association.

This is now Joanne’s passion: to pass forward her extensive insights, research and experience to any professionals working with children and families, who want to extend their knowledge as well as develop their practice to be the best they can be as they seek to support children and families in their various forms and stages.
